Upcoming Teacher Ocean Technology Institute - 10.01.2011

TTE demonstration
Teachers and informal educators are invited to a two-day professional development opportunity to learn about a range of ocean technologies from researchers at the University of Connecticut and from their peers who participated in Teacher Technology Experiences (TTE’s) this summer. Participants will join a Project Oceanology research cruise that will highlight the TTE technologies including oceanographic instruments and equipment to gather data on both biotic and abiotic factors such as: diversity and abundance of marine life, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, image analysis software and passive chemical samplers. In addition, regional scientists and engineers from industry, academia and government (e.g. Electric Boat, U.S. Navy, Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) will present how current oceanographic technologies are enabling cutting edge research and resource management.

Educational resources drafted during the TTE will be shared and participants will work as a team to collectively improve them as resources that can be utilized in the classroom. Teachers who attend the TOTI workshop will be have the opportunity to continue active participation in upcoming COSEE-TEK Webinars and be eligible for next summers Teacher Technology Experiences. A stipend and CEUs will be provided.
